About MPA

Making an impact for decades

Since 1979, the Montana Psychiatric Association (MPA) has served as the voice  of psychiatrists across the state.  The MPA is an independent 501c6  organization which is recognized by and has representation in the American Psychiatric Association.  The MPA's first priority is meeting the needs of its members and Montana's overall psychiatric workforce.

Working as a psychiatrist in a rural  state presents unique challenges in meeting patient needs as well as  maintaining connections with colleagues.  Meeting the needs of Montana  psychiatrists also means caring for our communities and individuals.   This is accomplished by MPA activities as well as through affiliations  of the MPA and its members, such as supporting the Montana Conference on Suicide Prevention and Montana Psychiatry Conference, teaching WWAMI medical students and communicating with key organizations like the Montana Medical Association, NAMI Montana and the Montana Association of Pediatric Psychiatrists (MAPP).

True to its original goals, the MPA continues to:

  • Foster the science and progress of psychiatry
  • Influence the maintenance of high professional standards
  • Improve the treatment and care of those with mental illness and prevention of disability
  • Advance the standards of care of all psychiatric services
  • Foster the education of psychiatrists, other fields of medicine, allied health professionals and the public
  • Promote the best interests of patients
